Elmer L. Smith

Elmer “Smitty” L. Smith passed away Friday evening, January 19, 2007 at St. Francis Health Center. He was 74.

Smitty had been employed at Lexington Park and the Topeka Convalescent Center for thirty-two years, retiring in 2006. He received an award in October 2001 for the Environmental Service Supervisor of Kansas.

He was born in Topeka on March 12, 1932, the son of Edward L. Smith and Faye Olive Fields Smith. He was married to Ivaloo D. Bailey in Topeka on July 1, 1965. She survives at home.

Other survivors include two brothers, Robert E. Smith and Clarence E. Smith, both of Topeka and two sisters, Billie Vaughn and Rita Sovanski, also of Topeka. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

The funeral service for Smitty will be Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Smitty will lie in repose after 2:00 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.
