Robert Michael Curran, 73, of Topeka, passed away November 14, 2011 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare. He was born August 9, 1938 in Rossville, Kansas the son of Jennings and Beulah (Hurla) Curran. Robert was a veteran where he served in the National Guard. He worked as a Machinist for the Santa Fe Railway Company for 30 years prior to his retirement. He coached football for the grade school and junior high students at Sacred Heart Catholic School. He was a member of the Mater Dei Assumption Church. Robert enjoyed four wheeling in the mountains of Colorado and was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He married Carolyn Turner in Topeka, Kansas on February 17, 1962. They later divorced. Robert is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Curran Grippo of Topeka and Julianna Curran of Lawrence, three sisters, Rosemary Gosser, Elizabeth Beavers and Joyce Wilson all of Topeka, three brothers, Don Curran of Lawrence, John Curran of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Phillip Curran of Omaha, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Curran and two sisters, Mary Kent and Donna DeWitt. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
