Mary Lucy "Chana" Aguirre Lopez, 96, passed away November 18th at Plaza West Regional Health Center in Topeka. Lucy is now enjoying her spiritual blessings in her eternal home. She was born on January 8, 1915 in the Railroad Community of Rock Creek, Kansas the daughter of Ramon and Eduviges Irigoya Aguirre. The family moved to Topeka, where Lucy was baptized and a graduate of Our Lady of Guadalupe School in 1929. After graduation Lucy worked for Seymour Foods and also as a nurse?s aide at various nursing homes until her retirement in 1980. Lucy?s goal was to do her job well and help others. On May 10, 1941, Lucy married Ralph E. Lopez Sr., and they celebrated 59 ½ years of marriage until Ralph?s passing in 2000. Her joys in life were going to Daily Mass, praying the Rosary, crocheting doilies and especially making Mexican food. Lucy was best known for her delicious Tamales. Lucy is survived by three children, Ralph E. (Terry) Lopez Jr. of K.C., Ks., Gloria D. Carreno of Riverside, CA., Marilyn (Rusty) Hilderman of Topeka, 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and one sister Lupe (John) Sanchez of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 4 sisters, son-in-law Joseph T. Carreno and a grandson Marc M. Carreno. Lucy will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Lucy?s favorite color was "pink" and the family would like your attire at this celebration to be cheerful and bright.
