Rosemary Henson

July 24, 1945 — April 13, 2018

Rosemary Henson, 72, of Topeka, entered her eternal home on April 13, 2018.

She was born in Topeka, KS on July 24, 1945, the daughter of Lester and Dorothy (Reser) Vail and grew up in Richland, KS.

As an active 4-H’er in her youth, Rosie enjoyed baking, cross-stitching, crafts and gardening throughout her life. She was proud to be in the first graduating class of Shawnee Heights High School.  She worked as a radiologic technologist at Santa Fe Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, various doctors, and Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, retiring in 1999.

Rosemary married Duane L. Henson on September 20, 1969. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2016. The couple were involved in Marriage Encounter, served as 4-H leaders, and enjoyed performing arts and traveling.

She is survived by a daughter, Detria (Blair) Anderson of Topeka, and son, Darren Henson of Chicago. Her siblings are Lorene (John) Sabo, deceased, of Sedalia, CO; Loretta (Robert) Ralston of Platte City, MO; and Roberta (Arthur) Zeller of Littleton, CO.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 19 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Rosary will commence at 6:30 pm, with visitation until 8:00 pm.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, April 20, at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  

The family extends deep gratitude to the caregivers and friends who graciously supported Rosie the last several years.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to one of the following: St. Matthew Catholic Church, the Sisters of Charity in Leavenworth, or Coritas Corner in Topeka and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
