Dorothy Ann Barnes

Dorothy Ann Barnes, 94, of Topeka, KS died on September 11, 2018 at her home at the Healthcare Resort of Topeka.

She was born November 14, 1923 in St. Joseph, MO the daughter of Andrew and Louise (Voth) Scott.

Dorothy was a charter member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and retired from the Menninger Clinic where she worked as a secretary for many years.

She will be most remembered for the love and care she gave her children and family.

She married George Barnes on September 10, 1946 in St. Joseph, MO.  He preceded her in death on March 4, 1990.  Survivors include their six children, Ann (Leonard) Urban of Spring Hill, KS, William (Connie) Barnes, George Andrew (Patty) Barnes, Maureen (Jim) Leiker all of Topeka, Paul (Becky) Barnes of Herington, KS and Robert (Sandra) Barnes also of Topeka.  A brother, William Scott of St. Joseph, MO, twenty grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews also survive.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, two brothers and a granddaughter, Samantha Barnes.

Dorothy’s family will greet friends from 5:30 until 7:30 P.M. Sunday at St. Matthew Catholic Church where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 P.M. followed by sharing of memories.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the church.  Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church, easterseals Capper Foundation, or Meals on Wheels, and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
