Obituary:

Carla Jean Spicka, 54, Topeka, was called by her Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior on February 7th to spend eternity with her family members that have gone before her. 

 

She was born in Topeka, Kansas on October 15, 1955 to Wilbur L. and Albina M. (Pechanec) Lee.  She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1973 and went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone until 1985.  In 1987 Carla began working for the State of Kansas where she was currently employed.

 

Carla was a lifelong and active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.  She found much of her strength through her strong faith.

 

Carla married her high school sweetheart James Kent Spicka on December 29, 1973.  Along with her husband she is survived by her daughter, Angela  (Evan) Loy and her son Daniel (Tashina) Spicka.  She was the best “Mema” to her grandchildren, Justin, Claire and Jacob Loy and Amelie Spicka.  Also surviving are her brothers, Gary Lee and Donald (Tammy) Lee, twin sister, Marla Hathcoat and sister Susie (Jim) Lee, twelve nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael Lee and sister, Marsha Lee.

 

Carla was a very loving and caring person and gave so much of herself to others, especially children.  She will be best remembered by her gift of love and commitment to family.  She touched so many lives and will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

 

Carla will lie in state at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Wednesday where the family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. with a Parish Rosary at 6:30 p.m. with a Parish Vigil to follow.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2700 SE Virginia Ave. Interment to follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association or the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.

Visitation:

Carla will lie in state 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mathew Catholic Church 2700 SE Virginia Ave Topeka, KS 66605 where the family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. with a Parish Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a Parish Vigil to follow. (map/driving directions)
